# Track one number

`GET https://api.lastscanned.com/v1/track/{trackingNumber}`

The carrier is detected from the number's format (and check digit, where it has one). Detection sends the number to exactly one carrier and never falls back to another; pass `carrier` to ask a different one.

Counts one tracking number toward the account's usage.

Parameters:
- `trackingNumber` (path, required): Case-insensitive; spaces at either end are trimmed.
- `carrier` (query): Skip detection and ask this carrier. Needed for numbers too generic to detect.

Responses:
- 200: The tracking result.
- 400: `unknown_carrier`: no carrier's format matches the number (or its check digit is wrong), or `carrier` isn't supported.
- 401: `unauthorized`: missing, wrong or revoked key, or a disabled account.
- 404: `not_found`: the carrier has no record of the number, or no such key.
- 429: `rate_limited`: the account's daily limit is reached (resets 00:00 UTC), or the carrier is throttling (Spee-Dee).
- 500: `internal_error`: unexpected failure.
- 502: `carrier_error`: the carrier failed or blocked the lookup. Retry.
